Pacific’s MSW programs offer an advanced practice degree based on the purpose of the social work profession—to promote human and community wellbeing.
Program Overview The MSW degree is available to students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited university. For some students, pursuing a MSW represents a change in pathway from their undergraduate studies. Other students are continuing a bachelor level education in social work.
Two-Year Full-Time Program (Regular Admission) Any applicant with a four-year (undergraduate) degree from an accredited institution is eligible to apply for admission to Pacific’s MSW program. The degree need not be in the social sciences, but should contain courses that address the liberal arts requirement stated below. Regular admission will take two years of full-time study to complete (64 semester credits).
One-Year Advanced Standing Program Students who have earned a bachelor of social work degree (BSW) from a CSWE accredited program, no more than five years prior to beginning the MSW program, are eligible to apply for advanced standing. The advanced standing MSW program requires one year (32 semester credits) of full-time study plus a one-credit “tune-up” course just before the program begins.
Curriculum Info Pacific's MSW program offers an advanced generalist practice degree. It is a full-time, two-year program (64 credits). Advanced Standing students typically complete only the second year's curriculum, but individual backgrounds may require additional coursework; a minimum of 33 credits is required.
Admitted students who have completed a BSW degree within five years prior to beginning the MSW program may apply for Advanced Standing status and waive the entire (first) Foundation Year of the curriculum. After taking SocWk 600, they begin the program in Year 2 (the Concentration Year).
